August 06, 2025Field Experiments in the Digital Age: Lessons from Mobile App Collaborations - Management Development Institute Gurgaon is delighted to invite the eminent speaker Dr. Ayushi Tandon, Assistant Professor of Business Analytics at Trinity Business School, Dublin, the University of Dublin, Ireland. This session delves into the design of mobile application-based field experiments through the lens of two papers that explore user engagement in distinct contexts—an e-learning application and a competitive gaming app. We will examine the unique opportunities and challenges of conducting such experiments in collaboration with practitioners. The presentation will focus on the practical considerations of designing experiments within existing mobile applications to investigate the effects of social information and rival expertise on user behavior. A significant portion of the session will be dedicated to methodological issues, particularly concerns regarding reliability and validity. We will analyse how these studies addressed issues regarding theoretically grounded design of experimental treatments, providing a framework for researchers. By discussing these studies, the session aims to offer concrete recommendations for fostering effective researcher-practitioner partnerships to conduct rigorous and impactful experiment-based research.
